The House That Faux Built (HTFB) is a unique project & book
with a dual purpose:
- To raise funds for the
"Habitat House that Faux Built" (HHFB)
- To showcase the latest home makeover techniques using paints
and plasters
More than 100 top
artists from across the US and Europe volunteered to help. Together
they used their collective creativity and innovative, new products
to transform the rooms of a 1940s colonial in Metro-DC and an
old church in Chicago into unique works of art.
The new book captures
the project in pictures and is being snapped up by homeowners,
DIYers, realtors and designers eager to see the latest in faux
and home transformations.
"This book is
amazing" says realtor Suzanne Leady, "because it shows
homeowners how to solve problems without costly and disruptive
remodeling."
Examples of this
include:
- Five tricks to make a small
room look larger.
- Five ways to transform cement
floors.
- Inexpensive ways to customize
existing cabinets and appliances.
- How to make old wood floors
look like expensive inlay.
- A new way to make old brick,
tile, and countertops look like they are made of stone.
- And dozens of more ideas
and products that did not exist even a year ago!
Proceeds from the
book and soon to be released "how to" DVD series will
help fund the HHFB New Orleans. Over half the money needed has
been raised, as well as over $1000 to help shelter animals made
homeless by the hurricanes. Once funded, many of the artists
will go to New Orleans to help build the home.

This faux stone
fountain was just one of the ways artists were able to
incorporate the New Orleans/Hurricane Katrina theme. It
shows the people of New Orleans emerging from the water
to help each other build a better future. |

The
house also includes a painted New Orleans match book so
real visitors try to pick it up, butterflies representing
rebirth, and this painted menu and tape featuring Cajun
cooking. |
